Nusa
Dua, the first class tourist resort in Bali,
situated on the southern coast, is the perfect
place for the person who wants to "get away
from it all" and, at the same time, "do
it in style". A magnificent, 3 km beach with
great surf provides a great venue for surfing,
snorkeling, or just willing the day away on its
beautiful sands.
Nusa Dua (literally meaning "two islands")
is the site of a tourist development project which
was begun in 1970 to establish a five star hotel
complex which is totally self contained. You don't
have to move away from your hotel to get anything
you want: shops, banks, travel agents, and restaurants
are all at your doorstep - the idea being to provide
all modern comforts without affecting the local
culture.
The concept has been highly successful and will
probably be come a blueprint for tourist development
in other parts of Indonesia. All range of services
are available here including the island's biggest
shopping and entertainment complex, 'Galleria'.
NusaDua is about 10km from the airport and 20km
from Denpasar.
Nusa
Dua was designed with luxury in mind. Numerous
bigname hotels line the beautiful sandy beaches
which offer excellent swimming in a protected
lagoon. Some resorts have private beaches however
most are accessible. Along this beautiful strecth
of beach you will find simple but good food at
cheap prices in the warung.
The stretch past the Hilton Resort is a popular
surf break during the wet season (November to
April), the eastern coast of the Bukit turns it
on with some outstanding right-handers. Nusa Dua
is a big wave break known to hold well over 5
metre waves. There are three main sections, Top,
Middle, and End all producing long bowling rights.
