The
Art Centre (in Denpasar)
is one of the largest and most complete cultural
centre in the archipelago. Designed by Bali's
foremost architecture, Ida Bagus Tugur. The vast
complex, apart from its very real cultural function,
is show place for Balinese temple and palace architecture.
The complex includes the open stage Arda Candra,
Museum, Balinese pavilions and sprawling, parklands,
as well as their art galleries (including one
permanent art collection).
Bali Art festival held each year at the Art
Centre for whole month (from mid-June to mid-July)
give you the best of Balinese culture and performance.
Candidat from every region compete with each other
to be able to perform in this prestigious event.
This art centre contains a huge 6000 seat amphitheatre
for the performing of large-scale "Sendratari"
ballets, but also a series of smaller venues adapted
to the intimate atmosphere of traditional dance
and theatre. All these building were built taking
into account the Balinese concepts of architecture.
The Ksirarnawa amphitheatre thus has a huge split
gate as one sees only in the biggest Balinese
temple.
